4 Day Cultural, Natural, and Tribal Tours from Tari
This tour takes in the highlights in and around Tari, at the far western terminus of the highlands highway.
Day 01: Port Moresby - Tari
Today as you arrive in Tari, you will be met by your guide and transferred to Hetamali Village. Over the course of the afternoon, you will have a chance to experience local villages in the area and perhaps even a chance to visit the skeleton hut of the fortune teller.
Overnight at Tabiale Guesthouse with meals.
Day 2: Mybiri Lake Trek
This morning you will depart Lakwanda lodge to Lake Mybiri. After a day of mild trekking, you will then return to the lodge for the evening for dinner and to rest.

Day 3: Tokia Village
After breakfast this morning, you will depart the lodge for Tagali river. Here you will hop on a local canoe and cross the water to Tokia Village. At Tokia you will have a chance to experience the local villages culture and lifestyle. Here you can trek down to see the boys initiation center before. At the village you will participate and witness the locals prepare an earth oven mumu - which is a traditional stlye of cooking meals in the ground with hote stones. Here we will enjoy lunch and then return to Lakwanda Lodge later this afternoon.
Overnight at Tabiale Guesthouse with meals.
Day 4: Airport Transfer
This morning you will transfer to the Tari airport for your onward flight.

“Thomas Payape and Tony Hateya from PNGVT looked after me very well. There was a funeral of a PNG pilot on the land next to Lakwanda Lodge and there were over a thousand Huli people there for 4 to 5 days.I arrived on the day that they were preparing the mumu with 60 pigs to be slaughtered. Thomas was able to use my iPhone to get great movies shot of the preparations.Since I had walked with a student from Tari High School to Margarima (2 days I think) in 1974, retracing Tari to Ambua Gap & Margarima was probably the highlight for me.I cannot recommend Rapheal Kogun enough!! He is very honest and cared greatly about my safety. Same with Thomas Paypae in Tari.The Guest house in Goroka was excellent, with ensuite bathroom and a continental breakfast provided – also very clean.In Madang, Raphel told me that there were pirates at the moment, so we did not go to Dazib guesthouse, but stayed in the Lutheran Gusethouse in Madang – again excellent.And would you recommend this tour to other adventurers who'd like to come to PNG?
